is text messaging more effective at conveying emotion than formal writing?

in this essay, i will be covering how some techniques have allowed us to put emotions into text messages or online letters. some features will be emojis/ gifs, abbreviations, and slang, these features make emotion prominent in text.

the emotion can be felt through emojis and gifs this is shown through the faces or images sent by both parties. emojis are cartoon faces that depict a certain emotion or ‘mood’. gifs are often very short videos that have a caption with the video. An example of an emoji might be a laughing face, which has a small yellow face that has a mouth wide open and eyes that are squinting with teardrops coming down the face as if you were saying “I’m laughing so hard I’m crying”, where if you were in a formal text then you wouldn’t be using emoticons or gifs. Gifs can be used to show sarcasm or convey your reaction, this can be shown by a famous person/meme video is sent and it usually has a caption for someone to see and then understand how they reacted. In conclusion, technology has evolved so that emotion can be conveyed via gifs and emojis quite effectively.

abbreviations have evolved in text language to express love or feeling towards someone or something. this can be shown in shortened words or via the first letters of every word. examples of this being used can be “lol” or even “bae” these words are perfect examples of emotion through text, lol can either mean Lots Of Love or Laugh Out Loud which expresses your love or you found that sentence or photo funny. “bae” is Before Anyone Else to express they are the most important person in your life right now. these can convey emotion much better than formal language for they can’t use abbreviations or shortened words and need to follow the proper formal language structure.

every country has slang sometimes even parts of countries have specific slang. this can be used to convey some emotion that some people may not understand or think of. this slang could be “init” or “banger” this can be used to say that you really enjoy something or that it is really good. init is used to make sure that your person agrees with you. in conclusion, i believe that slang is an effective way of conveying emotion.

in conclusion, text messaging is very effective at conveying emotion rather than formal writing because formal writing withdrawals the effective and efficientness of texting, therefore, it cannot put emotion into a text or wait for a response for the return emotion. text messaging is very effective at conveying emotion.
